Mazzagati is notorious for early stoppages. I mean the guy was standing up when he called it. Mazzagati just straight up sucks! That being said if Cain doesn’t get more power behind those shots then he will not stand a chance at winning the belt. To see a guy take that many shots from someone and still be standing tells me one of two things.

When Mazzagati moved in to stop it, Rothwell was down on his knee taking defenseless shots and by the time the ref got to him, he had started to get up, and when the fight was stopped, he was able to stand all the way up.
What Rothwell did is what alot of (smart or macho) fighters do when the fight is stopped, and that is to throw their hands up in the air like everything was o.k. Everything was not o.k. and Big Ben was just being manhandled. There was absolutely no reason for this lopsided fight to continue.
Yes Mazzagatti can suck sometimes, but that’s why the ref is there, for the safety of the fighter, no need for serious injuries like brain damage to occur.
If you watch between rounds Mazzagatti is right there kneeling next to Rothwell, he was right on top of things like he’s supposed to be. Just watched this fight again and I stand by my initial comments about the fight should’ve been stopped when it was. If you watch it again, at the beginning of the second round, Steve Mazzagati told Rothwell that he was gonna stop the fight if he kept getting punched like that. You can clearly see Big Ben dazed and unsteady just before the beginning of the second round.
And everybody who is hating on Cain for whatever reason, whether it’s his lack power or because he just wrestles his opponents down to the mat, give him some respect because the guy just goes full speed ahead and outworks everyone. To do what he did to Kongo was pretty f*ing amazing for someone with no power.
Cain doesn’t deserve a title shot for beating Rothwell, but since Kongo was likely next in line, that puts Velasquez right there. Since the Lesnar fight will be postponed, that’ll give him time for 1 more fight and I think he should fight either Dos Santos or Gonzaga with the winner getting a shot at the Lesnar/Carwin winner.

But that was just a result of having other posters make identical accusations without thinking. Just because a fighter gets dominated, doesn’t mean there’s some ulterior motive by the UFC. Quite simply, Rothwell just got his ass handed to him (it happens).
Someone posted that the Machida/Rua fight was fixed so that the UFC can continue promoting Lyoto as the best fighter in the world at 205 (laughable). I have no doubts that Rua won the fight by doing the most damage, but there’s a small majority that thought Machida won and I don’t have a problem with that, it’s just personal opinions. While plenty of people who thought Rua won are outraged (including myself) the bottom line is that we are only talking about a difference of 1 round, primarily the 1st.
I was pissed at Shoguns corner for telling him he’s winning the fight, which fighters will interperet as “don’t take any chances”. It brings back bad memories of cornermen for boxers who would do the same thing and lose the title to the champion for not wanting to take the championship. I felt Shogun should’ve came forward and landed more leg kicks because Lyoto was clearly hurting from them, so I blame his corner more than the judges. That’s what I like about Fedor over Anderson for p4p king, he is constantly trying to end the fight in anyway he can. But before anyone gets their ass hairs up over that one, Anderson has clearly fought much higher opposition than Fedor and deserves it based on competition.

back to the drawing board for you, maybe you could comment on the upcoming strikeforce fight.. I’m sure when Fedor wins real quick… you’ll think thats staged to!
@Dias Lag – You’re right, I should’ve not used foul language, I apologize, you were respectful in your responses and I should’ve been as well. But that was just a result of having other posters make identical accusations without thinking. Just because a fighter gets dominated, doesn’t mean there’s some ulterior motive by the UFC. Quite simply, Rothwell just got his ass handed to him (it happens).
Someone posted that the Machida/Rua fight was fixed so that the UFC can continue promoting Lyoto as the best fighter in the world at 205 (laughable). I have no doubts that Rua won the fight by doing the most damage, but there’s a small majority that thought Machida won and I don’t have a problem with that, it’s just personal opinions. While plenty of people who thought Rua won are outraged (including myself) the bottom line is that we are only talking about a difference of 1 round, primarily the 1st.
I was pissed at Shoguns corner for telling him he’s winning the fight, which fighters will interperet as “don’t take any chances”. It brings back bad memories of cornermen for boxers who would do the same thing and lose the title to the champion for not wanting to take the championship. I felt Shogun should’ve came forward and landed more leg kicks because Lyoto was clearly hurting from them, so I blame his corner more than the judges. That’s what I like about Fedor over Anderson for p4p king, he is constantly trying to end the fight in anyway he can. But before anyone gets their ass hairs up over that one, Anderson has clearly fought much higher opposition than Fedor and deserves it based on competition.

another thing to consider…cain gets hit alot and ben didn’t have the power to make him pay. can you imagine what is going to happen when carwin or lesnar hits him? he doesn’t have the power to make carwin or lesnar pay so they will wade right through his punches to land their heavy shots. he can’t out wrestle either one and he will get hit over and over by their heavy hands. i like cain and think he is very talented but brown pride should consider a move to light heavyweight because two white pride boys are going to run the heavyweight ranks for awhile. and a note to cain (who i like and respect). your dad tried seven times to make it to america. good for him and your family. could i humbly suggest that you promote america and how great it has been to your family? how about american pride?
Well another thing to consider is BEN ROTHWELL was getting HIS ass handed to him the last few minutes of the first round and the first part of the second round. It wasn’t premature so everyone needs to chill with calling mazzagati a bad ref because he stopped ben from getting his ass kicked harder

Early stoppage or late stoppage, who cares. The fact was Ben was only delaying the inevitable, and Mazzagati decided to save him from getting seriously hurt.
Mr. “Brown Pride”, has a chip on his shoulder and it seems to be because he was passed over for the fight with Losener, er Lesner.

Cain has no finishing power. He can out wrestle a lot of fighters and swarm them with a bunch of strikes, but he can’t hurt them. Dana White said that Mazizagatti shouldn’t even be allowed to watch mma, let alone ref it. Early stoppage, doesn’t prove that Velasquez is any better of a fighter

Given that that this is a sport, all that’s all you need to do to win. If we want to talk about hurting people, then the UFC needs to revert back to “no holds barred”, and let the Kung Fu and Karate masters use their Karate chops and throat piercers or let Dana grows some ballz and promote a fight in Brazil for once.
Anyone notice that White is wanting the UFC in ever part of the globe, but Brazil? Not to be racist, but I think he is afraid that his white base won’t appreciate seeing a bunch of brown guys and non-english speaking white guys beat their white fighters all of the time. (cough! Anderson, Wanderleigh, Machida, Rua etc.)
I think that the fight could have been stopped a few times earlier in the fight. It was stopped early at the end, but it wasn’t completely unreasonable. About 6 shots in a row. Thats not defending yourself intelligently! Steve is not a good ref. Cain is going places.
