I think it was obvious that Vera hurt couture when he went down in the second round due to a knee to the chest. I did not see Couture do any damage at all to Vera. I dunno if the refs were watching the same match that I was????

beat randy…and silva ..the only problem is he is 2 relaxed and content with falling in the clinch ..he was doing a far amount of damage with the kicks and it looked almost even with trades he jus needed to be less content with closing the gap stepping back n continue to have thrown blows and he would of maybe pulled of that decision perhaps got him self another k.o. on his record…

congrats to randy for holding his own and making fast recovery on some viscous blows ..judges score cards can always go any way ..thats why its like brandon said to be the champ you have to beat the champ..he beat on him but he didnt stop him or make it a convincing enough defeat so its all a flip of the coin from there…ohh well

They were both too good at their takedown deffence so this wasn’t much of a grapling/submission fight in the sense that they were not close to 5 armbars or 10 triangle chokes. Vera wanted to have a stand up fight, but Randy denied him that, but Randy couldn’t finish him off in the end either. Vera denied him that. So the whole thing ends up looking like Vera wants to fight stand up and (it looks like) Randy doesn’t want to fight, but just keep him up against the cage.

I beleive that fighters should try and end it themselves and never leave it up to the judgedes and I think they both wanted to do exactly that. The whole “you have to beat a champ to become a champ” is bs. If there are any points on the scorecard and you are behind before the match has begone, then there is something wrong. I don’t think pushing a guy up against the fence is octagon controle. I don’t even think Randy beleives that. I think that was the first part of Randy’s strategy and Vera denied Randy the second part so he couldn’t win by submission, ground and pound or whatever. The result is a close and uninterresting match.

I enjoy the submission almost as much as the tko’s, but wrestling and the damage done in the clinch is just one way of getting to the submission or tko later on. I’m not saying that wrestling isn’t important, but you have never heard: “The referee put a stop to this fight in the second round by wrestling”. So if you’re not going to let the judges decide you better be able to get to the second part of your stratigy or you end up looking like Randy. Vera ends up looking like the guy who wanted to be able to finish in all ronds.

Maybe Randy won. I can’t score a fight myself, but the difference in skills and strategy made this a boring match. I want to be entertained.

Your less than intelligent post actually contradicts itself, you say that Randy employed a particular strategy and he was successful in doing so, yet in the very next sentence you said he wasn’t trying to win the fight. You say: “His strategy was to tire Vera out so he couldn’t throw his hands in the later rounds. Randy achieved that But he wasn’t actually trying to win”. How ass backwards is that?!

But of course, in your view, this was an anounced title eliminator bout that would’ve determined the next opponent for Machida, which is so asinine because neither are nowhere near title contention, not to mention the obvious fact that Machida still has to get by Shogun for a second time. Yes Randy is loved, but nobody is interested in him fighting for the title ulness he gets through some of the guys who are in direct line for it.

And for the rest of the random RETARDS suggesting that kicks don’t score (or should score) equally to punches or do damage when landed, should leave MMA and stick to boxing websites. A strike is a strike and they all do damage, whether it’s an elbow that opens up a cut, a knee to the body or head from the Muy Thai clinch, or a debilitating punch to the solar plexus, they all can end a fight.

That’s the definition of MMA, some disciplines are strikes from leg kicks. Should some of the countless fights that were won by kicks be reversed because they just don’t count?
