Urijah Faber Wants Tyson Griffin Rematch, Open to Fighting BJ Penn
Faber recently answered questions from the fans during a Q&A on Thursday, and the topic of a move to the UFC’s lightweight division for another shot at Griffin was discussed.
“I’ll be around here for a while, and I’d love to get that fight with Tyson Griffin again. I’ll probably go down to 135 (pounds) [then] go up to 155. I don’t want to fight any of my buddies at [135 pounds]. I’ll just fight people I don’t like, and fights the fans want to see. (It’s the) same with going up in weight. I’m not trying to mow through the weight class; I’m trying to fight superfights that fans want to see. At this point for me, I’ve had 26 fights, and I just want to do big, exciting fights. Go up? Go down? It’s all good. I would feel really comfortable at [155], but I would be at a disadvantage size-wise with my body structure and everything… B.J. and I went on a USO tour together, and we’re buddies, and we’ve trained together, but we’re in the fight game to find out who’s the man. I’m sure B.J. wouldn’t have a problem fighting me, and I don’t have a problem fighting him. We’ll be buddies later.”

Think he should concentrate on dominating his weight class before he moves around.

EXACTLY!!!!!!!
both of you guys are just saying exactly what dana white says, bunch of tools imo. If he wants to move around to fight big names who cares, you don't have to clean out your division first, that takes years.
Aren't the USO tours done by scantily dressed dancing women?
You're saying exactly what a unknowledgeable imbecilic Dana hater would say. It's a no brainer that any fighter would have to dominate his own weight class to even be remotely considered getting a match with BIG NAMES in the division north of his. It's one thing to want to move up and work your way up in ANY division, but to lose twice to someone who beat you in your own division, who consequently lost to another guy in that same division, there's obviously plenty of big names to fight within.
Of course Urijah can move up if he wants, a fight with Tyson Griffin is certainly possible (Tyson would win), but when you start mentioning names like BJ Penn, then that's pretty delusional considering Penn is top 5 p4p in the world and a naturally bigger fighter. It's like Jon Fitch calling out Anderson Silva, or Rashad Evans calling out Brock Lesnar, HELLOOOO. You don't just get a shot at a big name because you call them out, it's called EARNING IT!!!!!
Hoe exactly do you clean out a division? If Anderson Silva or BJ haven't done it yet it must mean fight everyone you possibly can.
i suppose he can technically do whatever HE wants to do permitting the organizations want to make it happen.
if hes more interested in particular matchups then he is in dominating his current division i say more power to him.. wether we think its realistic or not,, at the end of the day hes the one stepping in the ring with these guys and he knows better than us what hes capable of.. i personally think fabers style is so unconventional that he could pose a threat to a lot of fighters that we would all consider superior…
that being said,, there are a few more people in the WEC that i really want to see him fight before he ever considers moving to ufc. this coming fight with jose aldo scares the shit out of me.. that guy has just been plowing through the toughest dudes.
NO, it doesn't mean fight everyone you possibly can, technically BJ as well as Anderson has cleaned out their respective divisions. Why do you think people like Diego Sanchez and Frankie Edgar are getting shots at the title. These guys are talented but are nowhere near the caliber of Penn. Neither of these guys are given a chance to win, but BJ has to fight someone. Why do you think Belfort was given a shot at Anderson before Henderson and Marquardt, that's because Silva already dominated and beat them both and there was no sense in either of them getting back in there for the same results. Both BJ and Silva are looking up one division because there's just nobody that's considered a worthy opponent.
Even GSP has basically cleaned out the mw's, that's why he's fighting a huge underdog in Dan Hardy. Otherwise he was looking at Swick (easy fight), Koscheck (been there done that), Fitch (no longer a threat), ect, ect. Cleaning out your division means anybody who is clearly a threat to your title, not just a fight with anyone. There's plenty of big fights in Urijah's own division that he needs to settle before making the jump to lw.
Sorry, GSP has cleaned out the ww's
Fuck you Pre-Emptive Strike…you think you know all, but your jst a fuckin loser
WHATEVER YOU SAY GENIUS!!!!
And he will do the same to Faber. As Jose said himself "your not getting this belt" I think as soon as Faber goes for the double leg he's gonna EAT one of those knee's. Don't get me wrong I want Faber to come back as much as the next guy and I'm sure if he loses against Aldo ( which he will ) that his next fight will probably be against Mike brown again. either way I bet after BJ wins against edger he'll move back up to WW for a fight or two. I'm more mad about the WEC pulling this PPV crap for this one fight. They will make a few bucks but they wont make any money if they turn all the fights to PPV ……….just my opinion
Urijah isn't really that good and it will be proven when he faces Aldo in the WEC's first PPV.
