Anderson Silva: ‘Nate Marquardt will be my successor as champion’

In a interview with Tatame.com.br that URDirt.com translated, Anderson says he believes Nate Marquardt will be his successor after he retires or leaves the division.
“I think the next champion of this category will be Nate Marquardt,” Anderson said, praising the American fighter who is coming off of a victory over Demian Maia. “If I’m not over with the belt, I believe Nate will be the next champion 84kg, the next guy to win for a long, long time this way.”
Silva also pointed out that Marquardt has improved a lot since losing to by TKO (Punches) him two years ago at UFC 73.
“I’ve been following all his fights and he has evolved a lot since the last time we fought. He has evolved a lot, it’s hard, has a good feature for a fighter, evolved a lot during the fight. I believe he is the next champion in that category, “he added Anderson, who is tipped to put the title match against Vitor Belfort in 2010.

Vitor Belfort is scary, Vitor and Mardquart will own the division… I would give a very slight edge to Vitor. Pershaps 56 percent.. neither will beat the other 3 out of 3 times, which they will probably end up fighting.

Nate is the biggest threat to Silva IMO as well.

December 29th, 2009 at 1:53 amOk hold up! Jacare beat 41 year old matt lindland now people think he's champ prospect? Na I mean matt is tough but he's no randy couture so he's slowing down so Jacare has gotta beat some strong competitors before I think anything special of him. Now Vitor has alot of issues that affect his fighting some times he doesn't show up the same fighter so he might be a future champ but I don't see him holding it long. I really think Silva admires Nates hard work but Silva is just being modest he will be the champ for a while I don't see him retiring soon…
