Then Jake Shields is here now, so George has got a couple guys before he clears out the division. We’re gonna redo Chael Sonnen and Anderson Silva. That rematch is gonna happen and Vitor Belfort is still in the mix. So they got a couple guys they gotta beat before we make that fight, but I’m not opposed to making it.”

Pacquiao fights on Nov. 13th. Mayweather has a TBA fight in Abu Dahbi lets assume for spring/summer 2011. If the cards fall like they should, UFC champs defending belt 2-3x a year and Mayweather only wanting to fight 2x a year (due to cheaper taxes so he says) this should happen. With all variables aside UFC injuries and Pacman and Gayweathers 50/50 spilt and the frequency of the drug test (random or not) and the testicular fortitude of Mayweather, not wanting a blemish on his record, this should happen fall/winter 2011 or January 2012. Which would sync up rather well with the UFC fighters schedule.
Your only as good as the opponents you beat. (Ahem, Chicken boy Floyd). How many former champs has GSP beat? (Undersized Penn? Declining Hughes?)
Thats the only way Dana can try to compete venue and big name wise with Pacquiao vs. Mayweather is with Silva vs. Gsp.

GSP is smaller then Sonnen, whom has fought at LHW. Not to mention Sonnen is an actual collegiate wrestler who isn't about pure brute strength like GSP but about technique. Back off GSP's sack before you talk.

GSP is very strong for a welterweight but by no means the reason for his wrestling dominance. There have been many pros who know what they are talking about talk about how GSP has the best wrestling/takedowns in MMA. GSP also walks into welterweight fights at a huge 192 pounds, I've personally talked to an oversized middleweight at the time in Rich Franklin and he walks into middleweight fights at 195 tops. GSP also dominated Josh Koscheck who was an NCAA Div 1champion as well as Matt Hughes specifically in the wrestling aspect in their matches. Commenting only on GSP's MMA applicable wrestling, I think I'd say that he might be better than Sonnen at it.

September 6th, 2010 at 6:37 pmGSP is not a better wrestler than Sonnen. GSP didnt even wrestle in high school. By his own admission he is not an olympic caliber wrestler. Sonnen has wrestled his whle life. He could have gone to the olympics at any point had he wanted to. Plus he weighs like 30 pounds more than GSP and yes weight means alot in wrestling, thats why the weight classes are like five pounds apart. GSP wouldnt even stand up with the like of Alves or Hardy, neither one possessing Anderson's skill level on their feet. I don't like Anderson, or GSP for that matter, and I think it would be a good fight. But Anderson would win 9 out of 10 times, And once again no no no no no, very fewin the sport all together have Sonnen's wrestling talent.

I think you forget, he decided against that idea…maybe because he's not on that level? GSP is excellent at setting up TAKEDOWNS in MMA, that by no means makes you the caliber wrestler that is Sonnen. GSP would get murked by any world class grappler. Like I said before, weight classes are so close together in wreslting for a reason, strength plays a huge factor in wrestling. Even if GSP was on Sonnen's level, which he's not, GSP will have much more difficulty taking Silva down because he is smaller. I don't care who wins, but I would like to see GSP dethroned. I like watching all the styles, if you can't get GSP off of you, its because you are a lesser grappler. Shrimp to your knees for christ's sake.

Also, GSP would take alot of weight before fighting Silva…he won't be that small! And just watch how easily GSP pass his opponent guards… nobody does that as fast as he does! He is a way better grappler than you think.

Everything you just said is true… Still comparing Sonnen to GSP is like apples and oranges. Even with GSP going up in weight, he would still step into the octagon somewhere around 30lb. less than Sonnen. In terms of wrestling, that is damn near three weight classes apart. If Sonnen and GSP were ever to fight (GSP knows better), GSP would be murder-rapped.

Using wrestling as a way to win in the score cards without finishing is lame. Especially when that's their gameplan. It gets the win, but it is fucking boring to watch. GSP doesn't do this, but others do. He does impressive guard passing and tries for subs or GnP.
