After Josh Koscheck’s win over an aging Frank Trigg at UFC 103, he used his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan to push for a fight against former welterweight champion Matt Hughes. And the future UFC Hall of Famer’s response to being called out?

“I find Koscheck calling me out kind of interesting and I actually don’t know why he is doing that. I was used to kids doing this when I was the champ, but as you know I don’t have the belt now and I’m puzzled as to why Koscheck wants to fight me and not the champion in the weight class. I have no interest in fighting Koscheck and, as he was showing everybody, he’s just a kid. As of yet, the UFC has never come to me and asked me to fight him.”

  1. Noelito Said,

    come on matt. fight the dude. Your a fighter, your job is to fight. He wants to fight you, um because he wants to fight you. I’m a fan of yours, but just fight him, he’s doing pretty good right now. If you beat him, it can help you out. If josh beats you, it will help him.

  2. PRE-EMPTIVE STRIKE Said,

    @Noelito – I was ready to disagree with you simply because Koscheck is on the rise and has nothng to gain by fighting Hughes, however some sites not only have Matt ranked in the top 10, but a few have him rated before Koscheck. I’m stunned over that one, but I think Hughes realizes that Josh is too strong for him and doesn’t want to be relegated as a “stepping stone” to moving up for title contention.

    But I guess after seeing where the rankings are, I have to agree with you that Matt should take the fight because they both have to gain from it.

    Matt Hughes, was exciting in his day.Matt’s time has passed.He is not what he was, and needs to retire.He does not have the skills to stand with the best anymore.

  4. Peter Hardwood Said,

    @PRE-EMPTIVE STRIKE – Well said.
    @Noelito – Well said.

    I am left sitting here wondering why Matt Hughes is turning Kos down when Dana has said in the past that Matt will not say “no” to any fight.
    That’s what fighters do….they call other fighters out. Kos now possesses the abilities to have a chance against Matt, so make this happen. Is Matt scared?
    I agree with PRE-EMPTIVE STRIKE as far as Matt not wanting to be a “stepping stone” for anyone.
    I feel that GSP took the fight game out of Matt Hughes and he hasn’t recovered from it. I think he should have stayed retired after the Serra fight. If he’s not mentally in the fighting game, any fight Matt has from here on out will be a stepping stone for the other fighter.
    Oh, I really hope Trigg doesn’t call for a Hughes/Trigg 3.
    Koscheck by TKO!
