Strikeforce: “Carano vs. Cyborg” this weekend
Coming Saturday on Showtime will be Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg. Considered to be the biggest women in the history of the Mixed Martial.
A fight between two women never before got as much hype Gina Carano who is 7-0 MMA, 1-0 Strikeforce and Cristiane Cyborg Santos 7-1 MMA, 1-0 Strikeforce. This fight even compelled Strikeforce to not only make this a the main event, but also in addition, they will introduce the first woman to hold a title in the Strikeforce organization.
Gina Carano’s base is her excellent Muay Thai skills. She should prefer to keep it standing. She is also getting her one-on-one training Randy Couture in Las Vegas, working on her complete MMA game. Her stamina should also be improved, and this is something I feel will determine the outcome of the fight considering it is scheduled for 5 x 5 minute rounds. The last time Carano fought last was in October 2008, Where she outpointed Kelly Kobold to a decision. So ring rust will be an issue with such a long layoff.
Cristiane Cyborg Santos is also excellent in her Muay Thai skills and she trains with the Chute boxing team. She fits in nicely with Chute Box, as most of them are as aggressive as hersef. Cyborg had some issues with making weight for her last fight in April, where she stopped Hitomi Akano by TKO. So if she has a large enough weight cut
Both fighters have similar styles when it comes to Muay Thai. I expect Santos to be the aggressor in this fight and possibly wear herself out. Remember, this fight is for 25 minutes. I also expect Carano to keep her distance and be strategic with her attacks, but if she decides to bang it out with the stronger Cris Cyborg she will likely lose that battle, Cyborg is stronger and runs at you like a freight train. The longer the fight goes on the more favorable it should be for Gina.
