Not so fast on the Fedor Emelianenko vs. Vitor Belfort reported earlier today

Fedor Emelianenko’s manager: “We’d like to see Fedor fight against Brett Rogers”

“Everyone in the world now wants to see the fight of Fedor, not Barnett,” Finkelchtein said (via M-1Global.com). “People want to see Fedor fight. Belfort can make heavyweight, but the fans don’t want this fight. Fedor isn’t seeking an easy fight. If logistics weren’t an issue, we’d like to see Fedor fight against Brett Rogers. Fans want it, (and) so do we.”

As for Emelianenko, he’s willing to fight anyone.

“I feel disappointed about this situation,” he said. “But I will fight anyone who Affliction puts in front of me. I know a lot of fans waited for this fight to happen, and I am sorry for them. I can’t do much about it now, but I am in good shape. My training has been good and continues to go well.”

Finkelchtein, who confirmed Belfort had agreed to the fight in principle, said an official announcement regarding the eventual choice of opponent should be made today.

According to TheFightNetwork, Fedor Emelianenko vs. Vitor Belfort is really happening:

Shawn Tompkins, head trainer at Xtreme Couture, has confirmed to The Fight Network that Vitor Belfort has signed on to fight Fedor Emelianenko August 1st at the Affliction ‘Trilogy’ event in Anaheim, California. Belfort was originally scheduled to fight Jorge Santiago on the same card in a middleweight bout. The main event was forced to be changed after Josh Barnett failed a pre fight drug test by the California State Athletic Commission.

We’ll just have to wait till the end of day to see who Fedor will be fighting against.

  1. Robert Said,

O shizzzzzz. He's definitely a more exciting fast paced fighter. This is going to be interesting. I'd still go with Fedor cause hes fought fast paced very hard punching fighters before and won.

  2. Ham Ham Said,

VERYYY INTERESTING, as we saw with Arlovski, Fedor is very uncomfortable with a polished boxer (with the exception of arlovski getting ktfo cause he telegraphed a flying knee. Fedor looked very uncomfortable prior to that), Vitor is going to be very fast at his weight and he's a hard hitter. This is actually a way more interesting middle weight/heavyweight fight than fedor vs. matt lindland. Look for Fedor to make it into a grappling match. Fedor striking is going to be very surprising.

  3. jonny boy Said,

vitor will win! watch how this is about to go down like kimbo got ko'd in elite xc…. i actually think that vitor is a harder opponent for fedor and thats why fedors camp wants brett rogers instead of belfort….. victor belforts speed is faster then fedors so im so look forward to this fight!! way more then i was with barnett!

  4. Meecrob4U Said,

Fedor all the way! It will be a great fight, and Ill be shocked if vitor wins. I was really looking forward to barnett kickin fedors ass, but it will be a good fight.

  5. solid Said,

fedor get your ass to the ufc where you belong……

  6. Mike Said,

If fedor beats Vitor I will belive he is for real. Too many questions around Fedor. He has beat alot of top heavyweights, but at the end of their careers. Washed up has beens. He hasn't been tested against the current best in the world. How can anyone be certain about his skills when he isn't fighting the best. It's all speculation.
